BOOK REVIEW | A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Genre: Fantasy, Romance

Rating: 5/5 stars

Review

As many of you already know, I began the ACOTAR series at the start of the year doing a buddy read with some of my amazing booksta friends. And let’s just say, my review for A Court of Thorns and Roses was not a good one (this can review can be found on my blog if you haven't read it yet). Given the experience I had with book one, I had been putting off reading A Court of Mist and Fury and continue with the series.

My sister in law, however, absolutely loves ACOTAR and powered through the series like her life depended on it. Now, I know everyone carries on about this series on BookTok and Bookstagram etc, but seeing her reaction to the rest of the other books made me curious to see if it actually does start getting better. She convinced me to read ACOMAF, and I warned her that if I hated it, I’d never trust her book recommendations ever again 😂

Well, let’s just say she’s in the clear as I will be taking more recs from her!

OH, HOW I WISH I PICKED THIS UP EARLIER is an understatement of my frustration with myself. Although this book took me FOREVER to finish (busy couple of weeks etc), I LOVED IT SO MUCH and I’m glad I could take my time with it; to savour every moment and take in every scene and beautiful line written in this book. I’m not going to lie, I went into this already thinking how much I was going to hate it, but SJM definitely proved me wrong as I was hooked from the very beginning.

This book made me appreciate ACOTAR more and also made me actually like Feyre as a character as I could NOT stand her in ACOTAR. This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat, gasping with plot twists and pulling my hair out from being so anxious! It also made me swoon over the heartfelt lines that were shared between a certain two characters (won’t mention who as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone). There was not one section of this story that I hated. I can honestly say I loved every bit of this book and cannot get enough of this series. Whenever I put this book down (which was a struggle to), I was super eager to pick it back up again.

SJM is definitely a great author and knows how to really captivate her readers with her fantastic writing style. The world building, the characters, and the curve balls she throws at you are just faultless, ✨chefs kiss✨ amazing. I also wanted to mention how she was able to illustrate PTSD in this book so perfectly. It was not romanticised, it wasn’t coated with any b.s like you see in most novels and films, it was raw and honest and that made me appreciate this even more.

I have just started A Court of Wings and Ruin and I am so excited to see how the adventures continue. One thing this book has made me realise though, is that I definitely belong in the Night Court with ✨Rhysand✨😍🥵🤤 Is it normal to be jealous of a fictional character? haha.

I hope you enjoyed my review on this book. I must say, it does feel good to be posting back on my blog again!

Stay tuned for my review on ACOWAR!

Until then,

Andrea.
