Review

Happy place by Emily Henry is a book about love, family and friendship. It shows how changes happen in friendships and how life can impact relationships- causing people to change and learn to value themselves as individuals. When I first saw this book all over TikTok, and everyone’s reactions to it, especially the ending (people were literally bawling their eyes out!) I’m not going to lie, their reactions made me a little nervous to read this book . First reason being because I hate crying and super emotional books and second, this book has a big hype about it that I was worried if I didn't enjoy it, people would think there's something wrong. So much pressure, but it was definitely worth it!

Anyway, lets share my thoughts on this book...

I’m going to start by saying this book hurt a lot. Both the storyline and to read. I’ll begin with the plot first. This book gave me Something Borrowed and Someone Great vibes (if you haven’t seen either of these films I highly suggest you check them out!) I loved the setting of this story and the character building for every single character mentioned in this book! I can honestly say I felt connected to everyone, especially Wyn and Harriet. My heart ached so much for them throughout their story and i could just feel the pain of them being apart and the yearning when they were near each other. It honestly felt like it happened to me lol. And this is all thanks to Emily Henry’s impeccable writing and the ability to make you feel like you were living in their world and bonding with friends in Maine. I really enjoyed seeing the past and the present of Wyn and Harriet’s relationship and how it blossomed and also how it faltered. Although I didn’t cry like some people showed on TikTok, this book made me feel emotional in a way I think Emily Henry had intended. I loved seeing the characters grow both as individuals and as a group. I enjoyed the banter and the summer holiday vibes this book gave me.

The only thing I can possibly criticise about this book is the miscommunication trope. It frustrated me a little and that being the main cause of issues was a little annoying. It also would’ve been nice to see a bit more drama between Wyn and Harriet. Maybe another girl or guy in the mix to make one fight for the other a bit more? Idk some sort of drama like that would’ve been a little fun too. Also, I think this book was missing the different POV's. It would've been nice to see how Wyn was feeling throughout their story and how being in close proximity made him feel on a personal level. This would've also given reader a bit of a break from Harriet and shown a deeper understanding of their relationship.

But overall this was a fantastic read. I enjoyed it from the beginning and struggled to put it down. I think Book Lovers is still my favourite of hers, but I loved this one too!

Would definitely recommend picking this up for you next summer vibes read. I think this is a book I will pick up again during summer...maybe when I'm away on a holiday? ( a girl can dream right?) ha ha ha...

I hope you all enjoyed this review!

Until my next post,

Andrea.
