Throne of Glass Series Review - Sarah J. Maas

It’s done, it’s  finally done. My 6 month long journey in the world of Erilea has come to an end and I’m very sad about it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series so much and it will forever hold a place close to my heart. I thought I’d review this series as a whole rather than each book individually. Yes, I have different opinions about each book and liked some a lot more than the other, I just think it would be much easier to get my overall opinion on this series.

I was initially very nervous about jumping into this series for numerous reasons. One being that I had just finished ACOTAR and thought nothing could compare (boy was I wrong about that) and two…it’s an 8 book long series with chunky books for most of it! Hello, Kingdom of Ash alone is just shy of 1000 pages! Crazy! Anyway, I’m so so soo glad I dove straight into this and have zero regrets at all. It’s crazy to think that I read this series throughout my pregnancy, birth and now 6 week postpartum journey. It took me a while to finish it with all the distractions in between, but that’s ok, because I was able to stay in the world of Erilea for longer.

Throne of Glass, in my opinion, is the best fantasy series I’ve read to date. These books are packed with SOO much adventure, action, suspense and a little bit of romance that I had so much fun reading them! The more I read, the more this series reminded me of The Lord of the Rings and that’s probably why I could appreciate it even more (being a big LOTR fan). Morath, Mordor. Wyrdkeys, the Ring of Power. Fae, Elves. The list goes on. So so similar and both as amazing as each other. The war scenes in particular in Kingdom of Ash reminded me so much of the Great War in The Return of the King. The description of these scenes were phenomonal. Not just the war scenes, but every nerve racking event that occured in this series was written and described perfectly. I was kept on the edge of my seat for most of the time and felt exactly what the characters had felt. In fact, this series is the first, EVER, to make me cry. And that is saying a lot. Not only is the storyline amazing, but so are the characters. The characters Maas created in these books are perfection. I adore every single character created and can honestly say that I will miss them. There was not one character (aside from Erawen and Maeve of course) that irritated me or turned me off reading. Unlike ACOTAR, Feyre irritated me so much that I sometimes wanted to stop. But with Throne of Glass, I didn't want it to end. I loved that this was more high fantasy than romantasy and I just enjoyed seeing the characters grow as you progress through the series. One of the highlights in my reading journey was definitely the tandem read. I really enjoyed reading Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn at the same time. It was so much fun and I HIGHLY recommend everyone do the tandem read at least once.

Throne of Glass lives rent-free in my mind and is a series I will reread many times in the future. The next time I read this series though, I may skip out on The Assassin's Blade. Although the novellas are somewhat important to the storyline and the history of Celaena Sardothian, I think reading this book once was enough for me.

This series is overall 5 star series for me, but I will break down my ratings for each book and in the order that I read theam (the order I read this series in is also shown in my image above).

Throne of Glass: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Crown of Midnight: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Heir of Fire: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Assassins Blade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Queen of Shadows: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tandem read:

Empire of Storms: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tower of Dawn: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Last:

Kingdom of Ash: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

I know that TOG is a completed series and ACOTAR is still in progress, but how amazing would it be if some of the TOG characters are included in next ACOTAR book? That would be a dream come true! Maybe Sarah J. Maas will surprise us! I know some people have their theories on what's to come!

I hope you enjoyed my review!

Until my next post,

Andrea.
